How To Kill A Giant:

As Christians, we all have our giants that we have to overcome. These giants are strongholds that we have allowed Satan to control in our life: music, our tongue, pornography, what we watch, alcohol, drugs, friends... just to name a few. The problem is, like the Israelite army when it came to Goliath, most Christians fall to their giant, letting it rule their life instead of slaying it. Let's take a look at David, and see how he was able to slay his giant:

1. Don't be discouraged by others.

1Sa 17:28-30 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause? And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner...
David ignored his brother and he ignored the discouragement. In verse 33, King Saul tried to persuade David to turn back, but David answered respectfully. Ignore peer pressure, and be respectful to your elders, but don't let them discourage you from slaying your giant. Those that mock, make fun, or discourage are the same ones that are ruled by their own giants.

2. Rely on God to help you slay your giant.

1Sa 17:37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.
David relied fully on God to slay Goliath. Satan has been around for so much longer than you and I. He has mastered the art of temptation and has so many tools at his disposal: we are no match for him... by ourselves. 1Jn 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. But God is so much powerful than Satan.
Philippians 4:13

3. When the giant is down, cut off its head!

1Sa 17:49-51 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.
When Goliath went down, David didn't start celebrating: he ran to the fallen giant, jumped on his back, drew his sword, and cut his head off. Once the head was severed and it was clear that the giant was dead, only then did the enemy flee. When God gives us the strength to put our giants down, cut off the head or the source of our giant. If your giant is music, don't keep your cd collection, throw it out and replace it with good Christian music. If your giant is having the wrong friends, invite them to church and witness to them, or if they are a 'Christian' too, then correct them when they swear and don't tolerate their dirty jokes. If your giant is pornography, setup safeguards on your computer; set your computer to send an email to your mom, pastor, or good GODLY friend with a list of every site you visited that month. If you don't cut off the source of your giant, then when you turn your back, that giant will stand back up and win another few battles.

4. Share your giants with others that will hold you accountable.

1Sa 17:57 And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
When David walked off that battlefield, he was carrying the head of the giant. David carried the proof of his Victory, and showed it to Saul and many others. As you fight your giants, share with others (others that will hold you accountable) your battles and your giants. Ask their advice and guidance, and when your giant is down, that person will be there to hand you a sword and say "Finish the job".
